Did you notice that more consumer goods these days have QR codes on the packaging? Even the pouch used in storing medicines that customers buy from the pharmacy has a QR code on it. And, maybe you’ve already ordered food online and found a QR code on its food packaging?

QR codes are no longer just for contact tracing! The presence of QR codes on more products is evidence that more people welcome the use of QR codes. That’s why more businesses are incorporating QR codes in their goods too.

QR codes can actually contribute to a better consumer experience and even brand loyalty in several ways. If you want to know how, keep reading.

Providing Relevant Product Information through QR codes

Using QR codes on packaging can help feed the interest of consumers when it comes to products. More than the expiry dates and the ingredients, consumers also want to know more about a product especially if a product is something new.

With a very limited space in a product’s packaging, a QR code is the smartest way a business can maximize the space and provide relevant information about the product.

Some customers are careful with the ingredients of the products they use. They take time to research a product they’re interested in. They search for the ingredients, the nutrition facts and allergens, and the processes involved in manufacturing the product.

Hershey’s is transparent about the ingredients of Kisses Milk Chocolate and their brand representatives. They include a QR code on the product which provides their customers easy and convenient access to important information.

This saves them time, and you increase the chances of people trying your product.

You can also include a QR code that sends the buyers to a cooking channel or a vlog that talks a lot about the product. This helps buyers get more ideas. And hearing feedback from other people may possibly convince them to try the product too.

Use QR Codes to Nurture Buying Consumers and Win New Ones

Now that more people welcome QR codes, they are more likely to scan it when they see one.

Use QR codes on packaging of your products to promote loyalty programs, discounts and coupons.

It’s easier to retain buying consumers than win new ones. If a buyer already tried a product and liked it, there’s already a possibility for them to buy again.

Loyalty programs, discounts, and coupons can increase the chances of those buyers to come back and buy again.

People love loyalty programs, discounts, and coupons! Including QR codes for these likely results in a boost in sales. People are likely to repeat purchases when they know that they get discounts on items.

Doing this can also gain you new buyers. All you need is a landing page and a QR code. Then include the QR code on products’ packaging. Once buyers scan the code,  they see everything about your loyalty program, and ongoing discounts and coupons on your products on the landing page.

On the same landing page, you can also include a link to your business social media pages so your loyal customers can follow you. Let them create buzz about your product when they share their experience about your products online.

Educate and Encourage Consumers through QR codes

Businesses also use QR codes to educate and encourage people to a good cause.

Huhtamaki started an initiative with a goal to increase awareness about cup recycling within the UK.

They included a QR code on their Specialty Cup range of single wall hot cups and paper vending cups. The mentioned cups also have a message indicating “please recycle the cup.”

Once people scan the QR code, they are sent to a website where they can read more information about recycling, including a list of cup recycling sites and schemes across the UK.

Using Dynamic QR codes on Packaging for Analyzing Customer Preferences

Using dynamic QR codes provides analytics. If you use dynamic QR codes on the packaging of your goods, you can also check the analytics of the QR codes you used.

Based on the data gathered in the QR code analytics, you can make decisions that can help improve your products. And, in turn help increase the satisfaction of your customers.

With this in mind, make sure to use QR codes with a strategy in place. Choose a QR code that aligns to your current business goal.

Do you want to gain more buyers? Or create an online community? Whatever your current business goal is, make sure to use a QR code that helps reach the results you want for your business. And use the results you see from the QR code’s analytics to make improvements to your products.

Steps in Creating a Video QR Code

For food product ingredients, you can create a QR code that leads the buyers to a "how to cook 'recipe' video" that uses the product ingredient. Or you can also pick a vlogging video which features different ways to use the ingredient in cooking.

If you want to create a video QR code, here's how:

You’ll need either the YouTube video’s entire URL or its video ID for this stage.
